Is Your Indie Epublishing Empire Mobile?!

Wavin’ atchya, WG2E-Land…from inside the D. D. Scott-ville “house truck”…

Well…that’s what our 3-year-old nephew calls it! LOL!

Anyhoo…

With my DH (Darling Husband) getting ready to retire in the near future, we’re hittin’ the road!!!

And that got me to thinkin’ how darn lucky we all are that with our Indie Epublishing Empires, we are all totally mobile!!!

We can run our Empires and write superfab stuff from anywhere in the world…with literally the entire world at our fingertips!

There aren’t many professions that have that kinda sweet-sweet benefit, right?!

So, while my DH is busy planning our 17,000 mile trip all over the United States, I’ll be “doin’ my D. D. Scott-ville thing” with our dogs still at my feet!!!

It’s Your Turn, WG2E-Land:  Where are your fave spots to take your Indie Epublishing Empires “mobile”? Do y’all RV it? Coffee Shop it? Beach it? Carpool line it? Scenic spot it?

The Best of Indie Epublishing Mobile Wishes — D. D. Scott

P.S. I’ll be Reachin’ Readers from the road! You betchya they’ll be a huge D. D. Scott Logo Girl and our url on each side of our RV…ohhh yeahhh…a mobile billboard, which means…tax deductions too!!!  WooHooo!!! And yep, I’ve never been camping before. Don’t know a damn thing about it! How fun is that?! :-) And neither does the DH… :-)

Do most of my writing at the beaches. Couple of great dog park beaches here! Send me an email if you get to the west side of Florida…Bradenton or Sarasota! Take care!

    • D.D. Scott says:

Yayyy, G.A….dog park beaches!!! Superfab cool!!! We’re scoping out all the dog parks too since our beloved Buckley and Siggy will be joining in our adventures too!

And you just gave me a wonderful idea! Along the way, I should host D. D. Scott-ville mini-events…for example, I should let everyone know that we’re now in (name the state) and pick a place to meet up!!!

U rock, G.A.! Thanks Bunches for the scoop!!! :-)

  2. Sibel Hodge says:

Sounds like a fantabulous adventure! I’d love to do the same around Australia one day. It’s weird, I was just saying to my DH the other day how amazing it is that we have the freedom to do this job in any part of the world we want to. How many people are lucky enough to say that in their careers? We’re very fortunate :)

    • D.D. Scott says:

We are sooo very fortunate, Sibel!

I never really thought about the mobility of our careers until the DH began planning our big trip! LOL! I’m kind of a workaholic homebody so this is all new to me! I used to travel a ton, but lately have been so damn happy workin’ away in my office, it’s hard to get me outta here.

And ohhh yeahhh, an Australian outback adventure would be totally fantabulous for sure!!!

I have just joined a group of writers and illustrators who now go to the Royal Festival Hall in London every other Monday, soon to be every first Monday in the month, to a write-in. We all sit down and get on with what we want to do. This week I went and managed to write 2500 words for my third Angel book. Meanwhile, I write at the dining table. I prefer to write on a straight surface.

    • D.D. Scott says:

What a cool Muse Therapy “Trip” to the Royal Festival Hall in London each month!!! I’m going to go Google that place right now to see what it’s all about!

      Thanks for sharing, Julie!!!

      And Happy Writing…the mobile way!!!

I have a feeling that we’ll all be taking a mini travelogue today!!! How fun is that?!

  4. Of all the things I love about my writing career, this has to be up there in the top three: mobility. I bought a net book and a small external drive for that purpose. I can pack everything I need–including clothes and accessories–in a backpack and go. I’ve travelled all around Atlantic Canada and wrote stories, answered email and updated websites from my trailer, ‘the camp’, on picnic tables, at the beach, in the car…I’ve ‘worked’ in many locations. It is absolute the best.

Good luck on your adventure. I’m sure it will be inspiring and tiring and fun.

    • D.D. Scott says:

Sounds like a wonderful adventure, Diane! Go, Girl, Go!!!

I just can’t wait to see what my muses pick up on along the way!!!

I’ve already told my DH that whenever some big sign says “World’s Largest (Smallest, Greatest, Whatever), we’re stopping!” LOL!!! :-)

  5. Jamie says:

Would love to be able to do what you’re about to embark on! And you’re doing it in style so it isn’t really “camping” (had a camper once). After a couple days you’ll have it down to a science. I’m sure your muses will get super excited too!

    • D.D. Scott says:

It really is a science, Jamie! LOL! I’m trying to “get” how to think like an RV Peep!!!

For example, we’re checking out all the options of an Air Card for my laptop versus these high tech satellite systems you mount to the roof. But it’s not clear in the info if the satellites provide internet too or just TV…anyone know?

Let’s see, you’ve also go to Velcro everything so it doesn’t slide around while driving.

I’m a total 4 and 5-Star Hotel chick, so this is all new to me! LOL!!!

      • Deanna Chase says:

When we were full timing, no they did not do both. You needed one for TV and one for satellite. The biggest issue with satellite is if you park under a tree or anything that blocks the signal you’re in trouble. If we were still rving, I’d be looking into the Air Card. We had an internet satellite and a tv satellite and used them on tripod mounts so we could position them around the trees and other obstructions. It took about an hour to set up each time. Lots of the nicer campgrounds have cable you can hook to your tv and a lot of them have wifi these days too. It all depends on where you plan to go and how rugged you want to camp.

  6. Tamara Ward says:

Don’t opportunities like this just make you grateful for e-readers? Instead of lugging a suitcase full of books around, you’ve got your library all on one slim device! This looks like so much fun, D.D.! Way more fun than taking a laptop to the local coffee shop!

    • D.D. Scott says:

      I sooo hear ya, Tamara!

I used to literally ship a box of books to and from each of our travel destinations!!!

      Not any more!!!

Just me and my Kindle Fire, my laptop and iPhone, and the DH and his iPad!!! :-)

  7. Lois Lavrisa says:

What you said “We can run our Empires and write superfab stuff from anywhere in the world…with literally the entire world at our fingertips! There aren’t many professions that have that kinda sweet-sweet benefit, right?!” is so wonderful about being a writer! When my last of four children leave the nest (several years from now) I would love to follow in your footsteps and travel …And your ideas of the logos and other promotional emblem on your mobile etc are incredible! Can’t wait to read more about your next adventure:)

    • D.D. Scott says:

      Thanks, Lois.

I think the D. D. Scott-ville Logos will be a fun way to attract new readers across the US! And be a smart use of promo dollars plus a tax savings too!

  8. That is the fabulous thing about being a writer. With today’s technology, we can do it from anywhere and not skip a beat.

    Happy trails!

    • D.D. Scott says:

      Isn’t it great, Debra?!

And with that technology, our “stores” are open 24-7 and we’ve always got superfab readers to hang with…even while on our own Happy Trails Tours! LOL!!!

  9. Jeanne says:

That sounds like so much fun! It takes lots of planning to be able to get to your chosen destination at the right season of the year or for a particular event. Enjoy each and every moment along the way. Keep a little diary for each day.

    • D.D. Scott says:

I have a feeling, Jeanne, I’ll end up with a bunch of superfab Cozy Cash Mystery Adventures out of our cross-country excursion!!!

I will do a blog series on our daily adventures too!!!

And of course, I’ll be posting pics of the United States best Bitchy Signs!!!

  10. What a fantastic adventure! I’m sure you both will have a fabulous time. And what great advertising. I know a writer here in TX that has a van and he put his logo on the sides. Has been a great conversation starter for him.

    • D.D. Scott says:

Exactly that, Rhonda…I’m sooo plannin’ on my D. D. Scott-ville Logos on each side of the RV being superfab conversation starters across the US!!!

  11. Mitzi Flyte says:

    I think you’re living a dream with that house-truck.
Morgan (also a writer) and I go mobile with our writing at our cabins in the woods of upper state PA. I have an internet card that connects me anywhere I can get cellphone connections and we take our netbooks.
We’re planning a trip to the Southwest in a couple of months (honeymoon – wedding’s in 2 weeks) and we’ll be writing and researching.
Writers never really retire or travel “just for fun” – we always see a story around the next (or last) corner.
    Mitzi

    • D.D. Scott says:

We are gonna be livin’ our dreams with our house-truck, Mitzi! Great way to look at it!!! :-)

I’m tickled to hear the Mobile Air Cards work so well!!!

And WooHooo Super Huge Congrats on your upcoming wedding!!! Cheers from my home to your new home and family!!!

I can’t wait to read the stories we all find “around the next (or last) corner.”

  12. DD, I want to see the RV with your name and logo splashed across both sides. Hmmm, perhaps you should take a trip up to Canada. It’s very pretty in the summer. :)

    • D.D. Scott says:

I’ll definitely post pictures once we get the logo girl on there, Sheila!

And actually, yes indeed, Canada is on our list of travel destinations!!! :-)

  13. Deanna Chase says:

D.D.! That’s amazing! My hubstr and I full timed it in an RV for five years before we settled down in our house in Louisiana. We actually sold our house and lived in the RV while exploring the US. If you have any questions at all, drop me a line.

    • Deanna Chase says:

I’m pushing for spending next summer in Maine. It was our first RV destination and one of my favorite places…in the summer. This time we’ll rent a house. Love the freedom!

    • D.D. Scott says:

Wow! 5 Years…now that’s RVin’ It, Deanna!!! WooHooo!!!

Maine is one of our top destination sites too! We want to see all the fall colors along the eastern seaboard.

I can’t wait to see how my muses react to this new kind of freedom too!

I’ll definitely be asking you some questions along the way…and thanks bunches for that!!!

  14. David Slegg says:

    House truck. LOL!

    Another great idea, D.D.!

  15. Love the House Truck!

I just bought my first laptop so that I can take my ‘show’ Up North to The Lake. :)
