The Edit Dude

Hello. I’m The Edit Dude. I live in Boston with Siggy the affenpinscher and my trusty MacBook Pro.I’ve just completed my MLIS (Master of Library and Information Science) at Simmons College GSLIS.

I grew up on a cattle farm in northern Indiana, U.S.A. I’ve done all kinds of work throughout my adult life, from waiting tables in college to drafting with AutoCAD and spending several years as a bookseller. Through all of these experiences, I have maintained a strong passion for books and for reading.

I did not major in English lit or journalism while in college. My undergraduate degree was in economics. However, I’ve been a voracious reader and bibliophile for many years. I’ve always enjoyed the construction of a deliciously satisfying sentence and I’ve been editing for friends and family for as long as I can remember. Classmates have always given me their papers to look over and I’ve even done a bit of editing work on papers published in scientific journals. All of this work has just been done gratis for friends and family. Indeed, if it had not occurred to D.D. Scott to ask me to look at her latest manuscript, you would not be reading this sentence right now.

I’m more than comfortable with proofreading/line and copy editing.  As far as plot and character development, I’m going to be approaching it from the viewpoint of a voracious reader of many genres. I’ve read hundreds of books and have a good feel for plot, characters, story structure, etc. from a reader’s perspective.  I know, without a doubt, what works and what doesn’t from a reader’s point of view. Also, I promise to be as brutally honest as possible without being too brutal. I’m looking forward to connecting with a lot of authors who are in the market for an affordable editor. Let’s do this thing!
